Human Development Division To Be Eliminated

Posted: January 31, 2013 in Uncategorized

In an unprecedented move, the district is planning to eliminate an entire academic Division–Human Development.  This will reduce the number of divisions to 13 instead of 14 and reduce the number of division chairs accordingly.  According to the outgoing chair of HD, Don Norton, the division “will no longer exist after this semester.”  The programs within the division are being farmed out to other divisions.  Early Childhood Education is moving into the Business Education division; Family Studies/Human Services will go to Social Sciences; and, Addiction Studies and Nutrition will move to Health Sciences.  It appears that full-time faculty will retain their positions but may have to teach in more than one department.

Human Development has been its own Division for 34 years.
